Question

The teacher tells the class that the highest marks obtained by a student in her class is twice the lowest marks plus $$7$$. The highest score is $$87$$. What is the lowest score?

Solution

$$\begin{matrix} Let\, \, lowest\, \, marks\, \, obtained\, \, by\, \, students\, \, is\, \, x \\ \Rightarrow \, \, \therefore \, \, heighest\, \, marks=2x+7\, \, \to \left( i \right)  \\ \Rightarrow highest\, \, score\, \, is\, \, 87 \\ \Rightarrow from\, \, equation\, \, \left( i \right) ,\, \, 87=2x+7,\, \, \, \, \, \dfrac { { 80 } }{ 2 } =x=40 \\ Then\, \, lower\, \, score\, \, is\, \, \left( { 40 } \right) \, \, Ans. \\  \end{matrix}$$
