Question

The three vessels shown in figure have same base area. Equal volumes of a liquid are poured in three vessels. The force on the base will be

Your Answer
A

Maximum in vessel A

Your Answer
B

Maximum in vessel B

Correct Answer
C

Maximum in vessel C

Your Answer
D

Equal in all the vessels

Solution

The correct option is A

Maximum in vessel C

Equal volume of liquid is poured in A, B and C given that base area is equal and you know,

V=A×h

i.e., volume = area × height

as is C, the height gradually reduces, therefore the height of water column is maximum in C.and you know, pressure at the base will be

P=P0+pgh

Where P0 = Atmospheric pressure

Therefore the force on the base will be maximum in vessel 'C'
