Question

The time for half life period of a certain reaction, AProducts is 1 hour. When the initial concentration of the reactant 'A', is 2.0 mol L1, how much time (in hour) does it take for its concentration to come from 0.50 mol L1 to 0.25 mol L1, if it is a zero order reaction?

Solution

Given,
Half life period for the reaction, t12=1 hr
Initial concentration, [Ao]=2 mol L1
Again, order of the reaction is zero.
Thus, t12=[Ao]2k
k=[Ao]2t12=22×1=1 mol L1 hr1

For, zero order reaction,
k=1t([Ao][A])
t=1k([Ao][A])=11[0.500.25]=0.25 hr
