Question

The wavelength of waves produced on the surface of water is 20 cm. If the wave velocity is 24 m s1, calculate :

(i) the number of waves produced in one second,

(ii) the time in which one wave is produced.

Open in App
Solution

Given wavelengthλ=20cm=0.2m
wave velocity(v)=24m/s

1)No.of waves produced in one second
in any wave frequency is equal to no.of waves

from the equation

v=λ*frequency

hence,f=v over lambda
f=fraction numerator 24 over denominator 0.2 end fraction
=120
2)time=1 over f
=1 over 120
=0.008
