If fruits are to be distributed among x children, 540 and 280 must be perfectly divisible by x which will be the H.C.F of 540 and 280.
Therefore, x = HCF (540 ,280)

Step 1: 540 = 280 × 1 + 260
Step 2: 280 = 260 × 1 + 20
Step 3: 260 = 20 × 13 + 0
HCF = 20
The fruits can be distributed among 20 students.
