To divide a line AB in the ratio $$5:7$$ a ray AX is drawn such that $$\displaystyle \angle BAX$$ is an acute angle. A ray BY is drawn parallel to AX. Points at equal distances marked on AX and BY and named as $$\displaystyle { A }_{ 1 },{ A }_{ 2 },{ A }_{ 3 },...$$ and $$\displaystyle { B }_{ 1 },{ B }_{ 2 },{ B }_{ 3 },...$$ respectively. Then which two points are to be joined.

Solution

The correct option is A $$\displaystyle { A }_{ 5 },{ B }_{ 7 }$$
The maximum number of points $$=12$$
In this process once line $$AX$$ and $$BX$$ is drawn, it is divided into $$12$$ equal parts. Hence for dividing in ratio $$5:9$$, we will join $$A_5$$ and $$B_7$$
