Solution

To protect iron from rusting, it is coated with a thin layer of zinc. This process is called galvanisation. In this process, iron is coated with zinc by plunging it into molten zinc, or by electrolysis. Because zinc is more reactive than iron, it reacts first with air and moisture thus preventing the iron from rusting.
