Indicators are substances that help to identify acids and bases. For example, litmus paper, and methyl orange.
On the bases of nature indicators are of two types, natural (turmeric) and man-made (phenolphthalein).
Natural indicators:
Turmeric and litmus both are natural indicators.
Turmeric is colorless in an acidic medium and reddish-brown in a basic medium.
Litmus turns red in an acidic medium(lemon juice) and blue in a basic medium(detergent).
Thus Turmeric and litmus are natural acid-base indicators.
