Question

Two circular coils of radii 5.0cm and 10cm carry equal currents of 1A.The coils have 50 and 100 turns respectively and are placed in such a way that their planes as well as the centre coincide. Find the magnitude of the magnetic field B at the common centre when the currents in the coils are (a) in the same sense (b) in the opposite sense

Solution

r1=5cmr2=10cm
n1=50n2=100
i=1A
(a) When currents in coils are in same sense
B=n1μ0i2r1+n2μ0i2r2
=50×4π×107×12×5×102+100×4π×107×12×10×102
=2π×104+2π×104
=4π×104
(b) When currents in coils are in opposite sense
B=n1μ0i2r1n2μ0i2r2
=0
