Two islands were separated from each other due to tectonic movements over a course of time. One of the islands moved towards the north pole (cold area) and other one moved towards the equator (hot area). What will happen to the rabbits living on the two islands?
Rabbits on both the islands after geographical isolation will form different species over a period of time. Due to geographical isolation, the rabbits on one island will not be able to reproduce with their counterpart on the other island. They will only be able to mate with other rabbits on the same island. As a result, slowly and steadily, the gene pool (sum total of all the genes) of rabbits on both the islands will start forming distinct identities and traits to adapt in the new conditions. Over a period of time, they will form different species.
