Let the smaller number be $x$ .
according to first condition, larger number is $2 x + 2$ .
Second condition says that
$2 (2 x + 2) = 5 x - 1$
$\Rightarrow 4 x + 4 = 5 x - 1$
$\Rightarrow 5 x - 4 x = 4 + 1$
$\Rightarrow x = 5$
Therefore, smaller number is $5$ .
Larger number is $2 x + 2 = 2 (5) + 2 = 12$ .
