Let the perpendicular distance between $AB$ and $FC$ be $h$.

$\therefore areaABEF=$ base $\times$ height $=AB\times h$

and $areaABCD=$ base $\times$ height $=AB\times h$

$\therefore areaABEF:areaABCD$

$=AB\times h:AB\times h=1:1$
