Two soccer players kick a ball simultaneously from opposite sides. One kicks with 50N force towards east and other kicks with 30 N force towards west. What is the net force on the ball?

The correct option is B 20N towards east

Now this diagram clearly depicts that the forces acting are two collinear vectors in opposite directions. Let us take east side as positive and west as negative.

So the resultant will be ¯A+¯B i.e., 50 N - 30 N = 20 N (For the resultant of two collinear vectors they are simply added taking into account their directions. If they are in opposite directions then one of the directions has to be taken as positive and other negative)
Since it’s a positive number and we took east side as positive, so the net force of 20N is acting towards east.
Be careful while marking the option because along with the magnitude you should always mention the direction as well.
