Question

Two waves are described by
y1=0.30sin[π(5x200t)]
and y2=0.30sin[π(5x200t)+π/3]
where y1,y2, and x are in meters and t is in seconds. When these two waves are combined, a traveling wave is produced. What are the wavelength of that traveling wave?

Solution

we know equation of standing wave:
y=(0.60cosπ6)sin(5πx200πt+π6)
with length in meters and time in seconds (see Eq. 16-55 for comparison).
k=2π/λ leads to λ=0.40m
