unsaturated compounds decolourise bromine water as bromine is added to them.bromine is a halogen and saturated compounds undergo sustitution reaction with halogens,then why does saturated compounds do not decolourise bromine water as bromine will substitute hydrogen in this case also?

1. The substitution reaction of halogens like bromine to saturated alkanes requires high amount of sunlight and also the a series of products is formed.
2. The reaction is also very time consuming. Thus in saturated alkane,,we do not observe decolorisation of bromine water.
