Using Kirchhoff's rules to determine the value of the current $$I_1$$ flowing in the circuit shown in figure

Solution

Using Kirchhoff's voltage law in the above loop:
$$-20V+I_1 \times 20 +I_1 \times 30=0$$
$$50I_1=20$$
$$I_1=\dfrac{20}{50}=\dfrac{2}{5}=0.4A$$
