Using laws of exponents, simplify and write the answer in exponential form:

(i) a4 × b4

(ii) 615 ÷ 610 [2 marks]

(i)

By the rule of multiplying the powers with same exponents = am × bm = (ab)m

Then,

= (a × b)4 (0.5 mark)

= (ab)4 (0.5 mark)

(ii)

By the rule of dividing the powers with same base = am ÷ an = am – n

Then,

= (6)15 – 10 (0.5 mark)

= 65 (0.5 mark)
