Sexual reeproduction involves fusion of male and female gametes. There is a genetic recombination occuring due to meiosis and hence, the new offspring shows a mix of characteristics of both parents. Sexual reproduction involves both meiotic and mitotic divisions.
In vegetative propagation there is no fusion of gametes from two individuals or genetic recombination or meiotic divisions involved. So, it is called asexual reproduction. The vegetative parts of the plant multiply by mitosis giving rise to a new plant which is a true copy of the parent plant.
