Question

What are diamagnetic substances? Give one example

Open in App
Solution

Diamagnetic substances repel magnetic field. This is so because an applied magnetic field creates an induced magnetic field in them in the opposite direction, causing a repulsive force. Diamagnetic substances are composed of atoms which have no net magnetic moments,ie., all the orbital shells are filled and there are no unpaired electrons.
Water is a diamagnetic substance.
