What are epicotyl and hypocotyl? How do they form and grow?

Solution

Epicotyl is between the plumule and the cotyledonary node. An epicotyl is important for the beginning stages of a plant's life. It is the region of a seedling stem above the seed leaves of an embryo plant. It grows rapidly, showing hypogeal germination, and extends the stem above the soil surface. Epicotyl also form a hook during hypogeal germination. The epicotyl will expand and form the shoot apex and leaf primordia.
The hypocotyl is between the cotyledonary node and the radicle. Hypocotyl is known to be the primary organ of a young plant that helps the plant to extend and to develop into a stem. During the epigeal germination, the hypocotyl is elongated that the cotyledons are pushed out of the soil surface.
