Satellite genome is a part of genome that contains highly repetitive DNA sequence. Each individual has different but specific lengths of DNA satellites. This DNA satellites in a genome forms the basis of DNA fingerprinting. These are inherited from parents to offspring and can be used for determing the paternity. Satellites are of two types, minisatellites and microsatellites.
