Question

What are the different types of a photodiode?

Open in App
Solution

Photodiode.

A photodiode seems to be a PN-junction diode which thus converts light energy into electricity. Devices are however known as photodetectors, light detectors, as well as photosensors, they are built to operate in backward bias.

Some of its widespread implementations are the photodiode's proportional responsiveness to light irradiation.

Types of a photodiode.

  1. PN photodiode - This photodiode provides useful in a variety of situations. Because it does not necessitate reverse bias, this is employed throughout minimal light scenarios.
  2. PIN photodiode - It catches photons of light with greater effect than that of a PN photodiode, it has a huge surface for collecting as well as converting light photons.
  3. Avalanche photodiode - This photodiode operates at quite a stronger reverse bias, allowing for multiplying the holes as well as electrons.
  4. Schottky photodiode - Such a photodiode is made up of multiple Schottky diodes that allow fast as well as lengthy-wavelength identification.
