(a) Meristematic cells near root tip are in active state of cell division. The cells are thin walled, have dense cytoplasm and large nucleus.
(b) In this zone, the cells have a large number of small vacuoles. These vacuoles fuse to form one large central vacuole. As a result, cells become elongated and produce longitudinal growth in this region.
