Question

What are the three major key enzymes in DNA replication?

Open in App
Solution

DNA replication:

  1. DNA replication is the process by which new strands of DNA are synthesized from the parent DNA.
  2. During DNA replication, each strand of double-stranded DNA acts as a template for synthesizing new complementary strands.
  3. After the replication process, two identical replicas of parent DNA are produced.
  4. DNA replication is an enzyme-catalyzed reaction.

The enzymes in DNA replication are given below:

  1. DNA Polymerase: It helps in the replication of double-stranded DNA into two identical DNA molecules.
  2. Helicase: It helps in the separation of double-stranded DNA into single strands allowing each strand to be copied.
  3. Ligase: It acts as glue by joining 2 DNA fragments to form a new DNA strand.
