Question

What happens when a current carrying wire is placed in a magnetic field?

Open in App
Solution

Current carrying wire basically consists of the moving charge carriers in the wire and when a charge carriers is moving in a magnetic field it experiences a magnetic force. So, the current carrying wire will experience a force given by F=Il×B where I is the current carried by the wire, l is the length of the wire and the direction is in the direction of current flowing and B is the magnetic field.
The direction of the force experienced by the conductor is given by the Flemming's Left Hand Rule.
