Question

What happens when sulphuric acid is diluted by adding water to concentrated $${ H }_{ 2 }S{ O }_{ 4 }$$. Explain.

Solution

The right method to make concentrated acid dilute is to mix acid in water. If we mix water in concentrated acid, it may cause an explosion as the reaction is exothermic.
So, for preparing dilute solution of $$ { H }_{ 2 }{ SO }_{ 4 } $$ we proceed by adding Conc. $$ { H }_{ 2 }{ SO }_{ 4 } $$ to water.
