• Map scale is the relationship between distance of two points on earth and corresponding distance between those two points on the actual ground.
• Map can be classified into two types based on the scale they correspond to:

1. Small scale map:

• Large areas are depicted on small sheets of paper representing limited information.
• E.g.- world, country, state

2. Large scale map:

• Small areas showing more detailed are depicted on paper representing detailed information.
• E.g.- city, village
