Thermal power plants are power stations which convert heat energy into electric energy. Thermal power plant is a collective term which includes fossil fuels, geothermal, solar and nuclear power plants as well as waste incineration plants.

The basic mechanism is that:

  1. Produce heat energy by any means fossil fuels, geothermal or solar and nuclear power.
  2. Use the heat energy to boil water, producing steams.
  3. The steam turbine spins and then drives the electric generator and produce electricity
  4. Condense the steam into water for reusing
  5. Repeat the cycle
