Aerobic respiration is the oxidative breakdown of respiratory substrates with the help of atmospheric oxygen. It takes place in three steps: Glycolysis, Kreb's cycle and electron transport chain. Anaerobic respiration is the breakdown of respiratory substrates in the absence of atmospheric oxygen.
