Question

What is first law of thermodynamics?

Open in App
Solution

  1. This law states that energy is always conserved it can neither be created nor destroyed.
  2. In essence, The energy can be converted from one form into another that is why this is often called the law of conservation of energy.
  3. This means that the total sum of total energies of all types in an isolated system remains constant.
  4. We do not think of energy need as it is always available in one form or the other but they still make worries about the energy crisis.
  5. Thermal energy is easier to produce by doing work.
  6. For example if we rub our hands briskly, practically the whole mechanical work done against friction is transformed into heat.
  7. Thus, the conversion of mechanical energy into heat energy can be almost100%.
  8. But the opposite process is the conversion of heat energy into mechanical work is never 100%.
