Question

What is limiting reagent ?

Open in App
Solution

Limiting reagent in a chemical reaction is the substance that is totally consumed
when the chemical reaction is complete.
The amount of the product formed is limited by this reagent, since the reaction cannot continue without it.
eg. suppose, 1 more of hydrogen and 1 more of oxygen take part in the reaction
2H2+O22H2O
The limiting reagent would be hydrogen because the reaction uses up hydrogen twice as fact as oxygen.
