Solution

Tropic movements:

When a plant exhibits some growth movement in response to a stimulus, it is called tropism.

Tropism is direction specific. It depends upon the direction of stimulus.

Both positive and negative movement in response to a stimulus is observed in plants.

Positive tropism is when the growth movement is towards the stimuli.

Negative tropism is when the growth movement is away from the stimuli.

Different types of tropic movement help plants to survive.

There are 5 types of tropism:

Phototropism: Tropism in the response to light.

Gravitropism: Tropism in response to gravity.

Chemotropism: Tropism in response to certain chemicals.

Thigmotropism: Tropism in response to touch.

Nastism: Growth Independent Movements

Example: Even if a seed is planted upside down, its root will grow downwards into the soil. this is positively geotropic.
