Question

What is net ATP production in glycolysis?

Open in App
Solution

Two ATPs are invested initially when the glucose gets converted into glucose-6- phosphate and fructose-6- phosphate gets converted to fructose 1,6 biphosphate.
Four ATPs are released (each two) in another two reactions when-
i) 1,3 biphosphoglycerate gets converted to 3 phosphoglycerates and.
ii) phosphoenolpyruvate gets converted to pyruvate.
So the net gain is 2 ATPs in glycolysis.
