What is reflex arc? What is the role of brain in the reflex action?

Solution

Dear student,

Reflex arc is the path followed by nerve impulses to produce the reflex action, It usually includes receptor organ, afferent nerve, nerve centre, efferent nerve, effector organ or a muscle.

In reflex action brain has no role to play. it is a sudden reaction which does not involve any type of thinking. Spinal cord controls reflex action. Though the signals are sent to the brain by the nerves, but that is only to analyze them. Reflex actions take place without interference of brain.

Thanks and regards.
