Definition

A resource which can be replenished or reused.

This type of resource cannot be replenished.

Example

Wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy

Coal, petroleum, natural gas, etc.

Advantages

  • Operating cost is low
  • Clean
  • No harm to the environment
  • Sun, wind, ocean energy, etc. are available in abundant quantity and are free to use.
  • These sources have low carbon emission and therefore are considered to be more environment-friendly.
  • They are cheap and easy to use
  • Known for their efficiency
  • Ability to produce a lot of energy in short period of time
  • Little or no competition

Disadvantages

  • Not very efficient in producing energy on a massive scale
  • They can be noisy
  • They are expensive to build
  • They will eventually run out
  • Not clean
  • They are threatening to the environment
