What is the difference between valency and radical?

The number of electrons gained, lost or shared by an atom to complete it's octet is called valency. It may be positive or negative depending on the nature of element, for metals it's positive while for non metals it is negative.
While the atoms or group of atoms having some charge on them are called as radical.
