What is the volume of $$O_2$$ liberated at anode at STP in the electrolysis of $$CdSO_4$$ solution when a current of 2 A is passed for 8 min?


Solution

$$v = 2A$$ ,   $$ t = 480sec$$
$$Q= i.t = (2\times480) coulomb$$
Number of faraday $$= \left( \cfrac { 960 }{ 96500 }  \right) =9.94\times10^{-3}F$$
Since 1F produces 5.6litre of $$O_2$$ at STP
$$\therefore 9.94\times15^3 F$$ produces $$\left(5.6\times9.94\times10^{-3}\right)$$ litre
                                            $$= 0.056\quad litre$$
