Question

What is the working principle of transformer?

Open in App
Solution

Transformer :

It is a static electrical machine that is used for either increasing or decreasing the voltage level of the AC supply with a corresponding increase or decrease in the current at a constant frequency.

Working principle :

  1. The working of the transformer is based on the mutual inductance principle.
  2. Mutual inductance principle states that, when an alternating voltage is applied to the primary winding of the transformer, an alternating flux is produced in the core.
  3. This flux links both the winding magnetically and induces emf in the secondary coil according to Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.
