Chemical compounds that consist of carbon which is covalently bonded to other elements like carbon , oxygen or nitrogen are called organic compounds. Such compounds present in a living organism are called biomolecules. For example- protein, carbohydrates etc.

Proteins, polysaccharides, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) are the broader classes of organic compounds present in living organisms.
