Solution

Cytochrome :

  1. Cytochrome are the iron containing hemeproteins that are primarily responsible for the generation of ATP via electron transport.
  2. They are found either as monomeric proteins or as subunits of larger enzymatic complexes that catalyzes redox reactions

Presence of heme:

  1. Cytochrome P450 contains the same heme as haemoglobin, ( i.e. heme B ) as a cofactor that functions as monooxygenases.
  2. Cytochromes P450 are a superfamily of heme containing enzymes involved in both anabolic and catabolic pathways.
  3. It plays a key role in the metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics such as phytochemicals, insecticides and environmental pollutants.
