Solution

The correct option is C Staggered conformer
Stability of conformers depends on the torsional strain of the conformers. It is caused by the repulsion of the bonding electron of one substituent with bonding electron of a nearby substituents.
In staggered conformer of ethane the substituents on two carbon atoms are at the maximum distance from each others thus, have having less tortional strain. This makes the staggered conformer of ethane more stable than its eclipsed and skew conformers.
