1. DECLARATORY - It declares India to be a sovereign, socialist, secular democratic and republican polity.
2. REVOLUTIONARY- In the sense of the legislative intent of the preamble, it envisages providing justice, liberty, equality and fraternity to all the people and strives to establish welfare state for a country which just came out of colonial rule.
3. INFORMATIVE- It provide date of adoption of constitution i.e November 26, 1949 and Source of authority of the Constitution- the people of India.
4. PHILOSOPHICAL- It enshrines the whole philosophy and legislative intent of the Indian Constitution in a nutshell.
Hence all of the above mentioned are the characteristics of preamble to Indian constitution.
