Solution

The correct option is D [Cr(H2O)6]SO4
Option (D) is correct.

[Cr(H2O)6]SO4 is paramagnetic.
The electronic configurations of Ni,Fe,Co and Cr in the given complexes are (3d)8,(3d)6,(3d)6 and (3d)4 respectively.
The t2g and eg configuration for the complex ions are-

A) Ni(II)e4g,t42g n=0

B) Fe(II)t62g,e0g n=0

C) Co(III)t62ge0g
n=0

D) Cr(II)t32ge1g
n=4

Where n is the no. of unpaired electrons.

These involve dsp2,d2sp3,d2sp3 and sp3d2 hybridization respectively.

Ni, Fe, and Co contains strong field ligand. The complex [Cr(H2O)6]SO4 will be paramagnetic as Cr has weak field ligand as water. Thus contains four unpaired electrons and hence paramagnetic in nature.

Option D is the correct answer.
