When water is heated from 0C, the density of water first increases from 0C to 4C and then decreases above 4C to 10C. On the other hand, on cooling water from 10C, the density of water first increases up to 4 C and then decreases when it is cooled below 4C to 0C. Thus, the density of water is maximum at 4 C which is equal to 1 gmcm3.
