We know that Cl is a weak field ligand so the maximum of the chloride complexes are high spin complexes. CFSE order for the transition metals 3d<4d<5d, so metals of higher series prefer to form the low spin complex. Hence Pt forms low spin complex, involving the inner d orbital. Hybridisation of Pt in the complex is dsp2. Hence it has square planar geometry.
