Solution

The correct option is A 2 and 3
  • All living things on Earth need water for various purposes. Metabolism involves the chemical processes in living organisms that convert food into energy and help them grow. Water plays an important role in the metabolic processes occurring in human body. So, statement 1 is correct.
  • We human beings need water for various activities. It plays a vital role in our life. Freshwater is naturally available water with a very little salt dissolved in it. Freshwater can be used for daily household purposes like drinking and washing. Saline water is water that contains a high percentage of salt. So we can not use saline water for drinking. Thus this statement is incorrect.
  • In the process of photosynthesis, plants prepare their food with the help of sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is released during this process. Water is consumed and not released during this process. So, this statement is also wrong.
  • Water exists in three physical states - solid, liquid and gaseous. It can change from one state to another. Example: Ice is a form of water which is in the solid state. Due to heat, it melts and changes into liquid water. On further heating, it evaporates to form water vapours, which is a gaseous state of water. Now this can be reversed if we cool the water vapours. It will first condense to form water droplets and then freeze to form solid ice cubes. So, statement 4 is true.
