The human trachea is a 10-12 cm long tube that runs from the neck to the anterior part of the thoracic cavity. It is also called the windpipe which is connected to the larynx and the two primary bronchi respectively. 

Trachea contains16-20 C-shaped rings of hyaline cartilage are present which are incomplete at the dorsal surface. The outermost layer tunica adventitia is made up of white fibrous connective tissue. The C-shaped cartilages prevent the trachea from collapsing and also provide flexibility.
