Solution

The correct option is D

1 - Bitter
2 - Sour
3 - Salty
4 - Sweet

The tongue has the ability to taste because of the presence of taste buds in it. Different taste sensations come from different regions of the tongue which are more sensitive to each taste. Taste buds in our tongue can distinguish four basic tastes - salty, sour, sweet and bitter.

The taste buds for 'sweet' are on the tip of the tongue, marked as '4' in the figure.
The 'salt' taste buds are on either side of the front of the tongue, marked as '3'.
The 'sour' taste buds are behind this, marked as '2'.
The 'bitter' taste buds are way in the back, marked as '1'.
All taste sensations come from all regions of the tongue, although different parts are more sensitive to certain tastes.
