Question

Which of the following radial distrubution graphs is the correct representation of a plot of radial probability vs distance from the nucleus corresponding to l=2 for the Hydrogen atom?

Solution

The correct option is C
Number of radial nodes for any orbital = nl1
where, n = principal quantum number
l = azimuthal quantum number

Given value of l = 2.

So, the minimum possible value of n = number of radial nodes = 321 = 0
Also, at r = 0 the value r2Ψ2 is zero.
Therefore, the graph of r2ψ2 versus r start from the origin and does not have any node.
