Solution

The correct option is C Br2
Only Br2 gives three different products with cis and trans but-2-ene.
Cis isomer gives ±2, 3 dibromobutane. Trans isomer gives meso 2,3-dibromobutane.
Two new stereogenic centres (chiral) are generated in the product. Anti addition to cis isomer gives racemic mixture while anti addition to trans gives meso product as the terminal and horizontal groups in the product are same.
Addition of H in reactions (a) and (b) generate a carbocation. Second stage addition of I and OH respectively gives both d and l isomers with cis as well as trans. So there is no difference.
Addition of H2 with cis and trans gives only one product i.e. butane.

Hence, the correct answer is option (c).
